University of Bristol

This programme offers an excellent grounding in biomedical research focused on translational cardiovascular medicine (TCM) by equipping you with the skills to understand, critically analyse and conduct clinically relevant research. Under the guidance of an expert, you will carry out a novel research project in the field of TCM.

You will be taught and guided by research-active scientists and clinicians in small group lectures, seminars, tutorials and practical classes.

The core of the programme is an eight-month research project in an area that inspires you. This could be either a fundamental bioscience project, translational research, or an epidemiological population health study related to TCM.

You will be based within one of our internationally recognised health science research groups, with opportunities to immerse yourself in both laboratory and clinical-based environments.

Taught units deliver intensive research training covering scientific writing, critical appraisal of scientific literature, presentation skills, experimental design, statistics and grant writing, giving you the key skills to be a successful researcher. In addition to the taught units supporting your research, there is a choice of two TCM units from the following:

  • Coronary Artery Disease I
  • Coronary Artery Disease II
  • Heart and Valve Disease
  • Paediatric Heart Disease
  • Aneurysm, Peripheral Vascular Disease and Stroke
